I've been creating model portfolios of clean energy stocks since 2008. At first, it was just a list, but in 2009 I started tracking it as a model portfolio for a small stockmarket investor. With the exception of last year, clean energy stocks have had fairly miserable returns, as measured by my sector benchmark, specified at the start of each year. I've been using the Powershares Wilderhill Clean Energy ETF (PBW) for all but the first couple years. I plan to continue using PBW going forward, since it is the most widely held sector ETF, and so is a good measure of how the average clean energy investor might do over the course of the year.http://www.renewableenergyworld.com/rea/news/article/2014/01/ten-clean-energy-stocks-for-2014?cmpid=rss http://bit.ly/15KdByZ

After being shut out of previous renewable energy auctions, and delaying its own auction by two weeks, the state government of Pernambuco held the nation's first solar energy auction on December 27, registering 122.82 MW of energy, six times the country's current entire solar energy output (20 MW). The auction involved 34 bidders proposing roughly 1 GW of capacity; at the end it was narrowed to six companies from Brazil, Italy, Germany, China and Spain. Average price of power finished trading at 228.63 Brazilian reais/MWh (just under U.S. $97), about 9 percent lower than the starting price of R 250.http://www.renewableenergyworld.com/rea/news/article/2013/12/latin-america-report-solars-auction-debut-in-brazil?cmpid=rss http://bit.ly/15KdByZ
