#Energy In the three and a half years since the Deepwater Horizon accident, many new rules and regulations have been adopted for offshore drilling. Two of the most obvious responses for improving drilling safety, though, have been overlooked -- at least until now. Former Coast Guard Vice Admiral Brian Salerno recently took over as head of the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, the country's offshore drilling regular. In his inaugural speech last week, Salerno indicated he favored strengthening requirements for collecting and analyzing data about offshore incidents. Specifically, BSEE is leading the effort to track "near-miss" incidents that could indicate bigger problems with an operator or a part of the drilling process.http://www.forbes.com/sites/lorensteffy/2013/10/29/a-long-overdue-change-could-make-offshore-drilling-safer/ http://bit.ly/15KdByZ
