Tories dismiss Labours energy policies as silly headlines

#Energy Despite fast-rising energy bills, Baroness Verma says Conservative long-term view is the right approach

Conservatives figures this week criticised Labours efforts to place the cost of energy at the heart of its election strategy as silly headlines, stressing that the coalition government was making progress in tackling the causes of the UK energy crisis.

At the Labour party conference in Manchester last week, shadow energy secretary Caroline Flint announced a string of measures in an prospective Labour governments war on cold homes. But speaking at a Guardian fringe event at the Conservative partys annual gathering in Birmingham this week, Baroness Verma, parliamentary under-secretary for energy and climate change, defended her partys quieter approach to the politics of energy.
